Monsters and Other Childish Things: High and Mighty

From DoctorCthulhupunk

At 8 pm was our own Robert Dushay's "High and Mighty" for Monsters and Other Childish Things. The PCs, and their monsters were:

  • GM: Robert Dushay
  • Timothy Hulse (Tim): Timmy Bevins (retainer) <illeg> St Carttons / Mr. Fungi Stinky Bottom
  • Me: Poppy Kant / Chewy Files (Her rendition of Chaugnar Faugn)
  • Joseph Carrasco (Jody): Mike Felson / Slim the Creepy. My notes also say "Holmes, Music", but I don't recall what that means.
  • Ian Thompson: John. My notes say "scrawny, nerdy DiceK". I have no idea what that means or who or what his monster was.

We made our monsters out of supplies Bob had, including paper bags, markers, pipecleaners, and so on. This was a lot of fun. We also got miniature paper Empire State Buildings.

NPCs included:

  • Dink, aka Davis Dinkins, and his monster, Shushu, a giant 2-headed slug. Dink hadn't yet clued in that this whole monster business was supposed to be kept Secret.
  • Ms. Lockwurst: Social Studies Teacher
  • Mr. Lucardo: Creepy Art Teacher
  • Ms. Sanctmeyer: Mother volunteering to help out

The kids were on a field trip to the Empire State Building, and they were trying to avoid Dink. My notes mention Banana Slugs and Hummy Happy Chewy, but no details on what that meant.

The schoolkids and chaperones went to the observation deck on the 86th floor. I'm not sure whether they went higher before the building started shaking. The kids and their monsters wondered what was going on.

Mr. Fungi (I think): Giant underground catfish? They cause earthquakes.

Chewy: Dhole or Cancan. ("Cancan" = "Cthonian")

As the kids went up and down the stairs, heading in and out with their monsters, someone said: The next time we do it, we need walky-talkies!

There came the sound of flapping wings and breaking glass below, and then the sound of flapping wings above. The building had come to life!

At the top, near the spire, were flapping wings. From the bottom third emerged 8 spider legs. The building was walking, and this caused it to sway from side to side. The kids attacked the building, of course. My notes, with no explanation, say:

Rocket propelled mushrooms
Rook takes King
The world's biggest graffiti drawing in <illeg> in crayon

That last may have been something done to lure the building somewhere. I don't recall.

Other quotes:

No -- they don't breath.

But methane burns!

See! We got it! We totally got it!

It's Not Our Fault.

That building was _picking_ on us!

The building had been brought to life by Mr. Lucardo, the creepy art teacher. I think he managed to get away after the kids and their monsters defeated the building. All of the school kids were eventually rounded up by the teachers and parents who volunteered. Naturally, none of the other students and none of the adults saw any monsters, as they were hastily going down the stairs to evacuate. Exactly how anyone explained the new position of the Empire State Building is left as an exercise for the reader.
