Eclipse Phase: Ego Hunter

From DoctorCthulhupunk

July 8 at 9 am was a game of Eclipse Phase, using the scenario "Ego Hunter". I think this scenario is available for sale online. I'd wanted to learn more about Eclipse Phase for a long time. I don't recall a lot of details, but there were many factions, and one could create a Fork, a clone of oneself that generally lived for a couple of weeks and then had its memories absorbed into its alpha / primary, while the body was recycled. Apparently, most Forks comprehended this and didn't have a problem with it. They'd live on, in some sense, in their primary.

My cast list is confusing to me:

  • GM: Paul Duggan
  • Andrew: Associate Park Soon -- OK
  • Me: Fork, Acjima Yai [B1], Barry
  • ???: Billy
  • Joseph (Jodi) Carrasco: Associate
  • C??? Johnson: Benny
  • ???: Fork, Balthazar

As I recall, there were at least three Forks in play, maybe four. The primary, Acjima Yai, was part of some extreme movement or other, but had second thoughts at one point, and left her Forks a message: Find it Stop me

The PCs managed to do just that, saving the station where they were from the release of some kind of biological weapon. I forget most of the details, but I remember that the task was made more difficult by one of the Forks. This Fork was played by someone who was the sort of player who will start attacking NPCs and generally causing trouble for no easily understandable reason -- and he was playing a Fork who was paranoid. So, I'm not really clear what was and wasn't good play, as opposed to random play. His character did not survive to the end of the scenario.

Game quotes:

How do we tell one group of nanites from another?

Oh, that means a lot coming from a Droid!

On the paranoid Fork somehow managing to turn the tables on the mob boss who had sent three thugs to bring in the Forks so that he could find out what the heck was going on:

Paranoid Fork: I didn't think this far ahead. (improvising, to the mob boss) Now, you'll answer _my_ questions.

Mob Boss (to his thugs / bodyguards): You three are fired!

Someone, possibly the paranoid Fork: Kicking puppies? I _never_ remember the good stuff!

Mob Boss explaining how he knew the Forks were Forks of Achima: Smart, but stupid -- like Acjima. The paranoid Fork was killed, either by the mob boss or by one of his thugs, and the other Forks came to an agreement: The mob boss would let them try to stop whatever it was Acjima was up to, as all agreed it was Bad.

Acjima eventually wound up dead, which really was necessary. I'm not quite sure if any of the Forks survived. I think they were returned to their constituent elements, or perhaps integrated into a new version of Acjima. But, whatever happened, no one except the Fork who was killed by the mob boss's thugs was particularly distressed.
