Black Kittycat By Joshua Kronengold May be sung to the tune of Heather Alexander's Black Unicorn I am he who knocks on your outside door, I am he who stalks the night. I am he who leaves clawmarks on your floor, You'll see my eyes in the firelight. While in the day I'm hard to find, When you're asleep, your feet I'll bat. I'll grab your sweater and unwind, I am the black kittycat. My speed is like that of burning fire, My claws are as sharp as knives. I am the playmate you most desire, I am the beast that lives nine lives. Though light is shining in my eyes, My coat is as black as coal. You let me rub against your thighs. But will you fill my water-bowl. Teeth sharp as daggers cooled in the snow, and paws that don't touch the ground Don't let me cross your path as you go, For then you will fall toward the ground. There is but one who I let touch, And is from clawmarks free. His shoes are hard, his speed is such, That he's more fast than me. I am he who knocks on your outside door, I am he who stalks the night. I am he who leaves clawmarks on your floor, You'll see my eyes in the firelight. While in the day I'm hard to find, When you're asleep, your feet I'll bat. I broke your vase, hope you don't mind, I am the black kittycat.
