Second Game:

The next game started at a funeral, and the players came up with their PCs' relationships to the deceased, and I think all said a few words. The PCs were:

  • Frawly Everett - Ryan, previously Dierdre. Pyromancer with smile.
  • Jonathan Rawd -- Ben. Millionaire priest.
  • Kat, aka Katherine Everett -- Played by me. Frawley's ex. Hydromancer with temper.
  • Mei Lu -- Dennis. Half vampire, half doctor.
  • Rocky Robinson -- Darryl. Werewolf.
  • Ursula Wagner -- Jessica. Sylph, lawyer, changeling.

Ursula sang beautifully, charming all except Kat, who had an aspect that was largely an amusing disadvantage, basically being utterly materialistic / mundane.

The deceased sat up suddenly, causing some consternation. Alas, the body was basically mindless undead, and the PCs had to put it down fast. They investigated and discovered that three stupid college kids, Brittany, Andrew, and Charlie had done some sort of ritual pacting with some spirit or dead mage or something. The boys were going to fight a magical duel, and one of the kids had done something which caused the dead to walk.

The PCs dealt with all of this, and then had to advise the White Council. The students had all broken the Laws of the Council, and the Council a) didn't consider ignorance a defense, b) didn't generally believe in second chances, and c) may well have a good point given the moral effect of magic in the Dresden universe. As I recall, the exes, Frawley and Kat, were actually on the same page, thinking that one of the students was almost certainly a warlock, and hence merited the death penalty, and I think uncertain about one, who may not have realized what he was doing, and arguably possessed by the spirits involved. I forget. I don't know what the Council did, but I suspect it erred on the side of caution and executions.

I don't remember a lot of the combat details, though I remember using Aspects, including Kat's kleptomania, which caused her to pocket some of the jewelry of the dead lady at the beginning. I also remember the GM being concerned about the start of the game, given that I was, quite literally, making funeral arrangements for my mother. I assured him that I was fine with roleplaying someone else at someone else's funeral.
